Subaru Loves to Help is a nationwide initiative focused on supporting children and families facing urgent needs. While the program spans communities across the country, its impact is felt most strongly at the local level. By working closely with trusted community partners, our Subaru dealership helps turn a national mission into meaningful local support, delivering essentials faster and in ways that help assist the families in need in our area.

In the Midwest, and especially across the greater Chicagoland area, winter brings brisk and brutal temperatures, making a warm coat an essential. Through our collaboration with Operation Warm, Castle Subaru McHenry was proud to participate in Subaru Loves to Help this season by providing 300 brand-new winter coats to children in our community and helping ensure those coats reached families who needed them most.

Partnering With Operation Warm to Support Local Children

Supporting the community also means understanding the challenges families face when it comes to supporting their children and meeting basic needs. Children grow very quickly, often outgrowing their clothes every six months. They also change show sizes every four to eight months between the ages of 4 and 14. With child needs changing so rapidly, keeping up with winter essentials can be difficult, especially for families with two or more children.

Financially, replacing these items add up quickly which can prove to be costly. For families already spending more than 80% of their income on necessities like food, housing, childcare, and healthcare, finding room in the budget for seasonal clothing is not always possible.

Guided by their “More Than a Coat” mission, Operation Warm has made a meaningful difference to over 4,000 communities and 7 million children nationwide for over 26 years. Through this partnership, Castle Subaru McHenry worked with United Way of Greater McHenry County, the local beneficiary, to provide warm coats to children in need across our community.

Why Warm Coats and Shoes Matter So Much for Kids

When the weather drops, layers and proper protection from the elements are the key to staying warm. Without the correct winter gear, some children may need to miss school and struggle to fully participate in class. The winter months can expose the gaps in access to essential winter clothing for children and families in need.

However, when students are physically prepared for the day with proper winter attire, they are better able to focus, foster friendships, and succeed academically. A new coat or shoes can be the difference between distraction and confidence.

How Subaru Loves to Help Works

Through partnerships with organizations like Operation Warm, Subaru dealerships help provide brand-new necessities such as coats, shoes, and socks to communities in need.Subaru Loves to Help connects Subaru retailers with nonprofit partners and trusted local organizations that serve children experiencing homelessness or other urgent needs. Together, Subaru and its participating retailers are helping support more than 140,000 children through Subaru Loves to Help initiatives, contributing to a broader nationwide impact that has reached over 1 million children and adults to date.
